Kawasaki 440 Rod Spec's

Post by Armilite »

What is the old, I think 1979 to 1984 Kawasaki 440 Rod Spec's, I think they called them T1440-A?

I have also heard of a 440-B, and 440-C. What are the differences between them A/B/C?

Are the Rods and other parts needed, still available to rebuild these 440 Cranks?

Has anyone here ever built a good Tuned Pipe for one?

Thanks
Rich

You probably won't have much luck here because JD never sold the crank parts separately. You could only buy the whole crank. So that also means that we can't even cross-check part numbers to see what is interchangeable.

OK, I'm not having much luck finding any of the Sled Kawasaki Motor Rod info to verify. I did find a Kaw 440 Jet Ski Rod info from HotRods. They have the same Bore & Stroke, but I don't know if there the same Rod. From some newer Kawasaki Engine's it looks like they used the same Rods in many engines. If someone has a Rod laying on a shelf, maybe they can confirm if this Kaw 440 Jet Ski Rod can work. I don't have one to measure yet.

I found this data also. One site listed the Kaw 440 TOP ROD BEARING: #09-522 - 16 x 20 x 22.5, but I have seen 16x20x22, and 16x20x23 so I don't know if there rounding up the 22.5 to 23, or what, to add to the confusion.

Another site had this info:
Needle Cage Bearing - Arctic Cat (16x20x22)
Needle Cage Bearing - Arctic Cat (20x26x24)
Needle Cage Bearing - Arctic Cat / Polaris (18x23x22)

I checked out those rods on Hot Rods site myself and got all excited that they would work and then looked them over some more and found out the width of the rod journals was way different, either to narrow or to wide.
I wish I new what engines used the same rod or if a newer engine that lists the crank parts separate used the same rod but seems impossible to get any info or specs on these two stroke engines and parts. I have a crank that I believe came out of a T7 motor or I was told but looks identical to the one out of my Sportfire but rods have different cuts in them for receiving oil. I took it apart and there are no numbers on anything even the lower rod bearings. When I get a chance I am going to Motion Industries to see if they can match it.
If I have any luck I will let you know.
