Just a reminder, check your skids!

Post by idMXLT »

I picked up a very nice 80' Liquifire last season (http://www.jdsleds.com/community/viewto ... =1&t=17110) and had a great time with it. Typically when I get a new-to-me sled I immediately pull the skid and freshen it up because experience has shown me that there is always at least one thing on the rear suspension that needs to be fixed. ...........................

"But this Liquifire is the nicest sled I own, and it rides great!" I told myself "Surely the skid is fine for one season? I'll go through it next year" We didn't even get that many rides in last season since the snow was so terrible.

I decided to pull the skid this year and I am glad I did. All the cross shafts were dry, the rear one was nearly stuck, the hyfax was brittle and breaking up, every bearing was toast, and 2 of the wheels can barely be turned by hand!
I'm lucky I didn't wreck the skid and the tunnel being a foolish lazyass on this. :bonk:

New bearings and hyfax are on the way, check your skids!!!!!!!!!

Took the Liquifire on a PNWVSC ride @ Clear Lake Sno Park outside Wenatchee WA. The freshened up suspension rode great! Unfortunately the 5 plate fuel pump decided to pack it up about 4 miles up the trail so my buddy had to tow me back. The shame of being towed back by a Polaris still stings! :bonk: My first ride back on a hook in years.

Very true!

I was zooming up a pretty good hill at the time and felt 1 cylinder start dropping out. My mind immediately went to "holed piston" and a string of profanity spewed forth from my helmet as I rolled out of it and got off the trail. She spluttered to a stop and then the problem hunt began. A careful pull revealed compression on both sides. I looked in the tank and saw that the pickup was still attached and I had fuel up to the pump. I roped it over a few times with the carb lines off and got nothing. The tank was pretty full so I considered just bypassing the pump and running via gravity feed back to the truck, but the thought of leaning it out and actually holing a piston stopped me :hand: .
