So i decided that instead of starting a million threads like i have been as ive been rebuilding my 76 cyclone, i would start one thread that showed my progress through the whole build. so here it is.
i scored this 76 cyclone 440 from the original owner (old timer that lived next door to my gf) it had been sitting in the tree line for a couple years and never moved. finally asked him one day if he wanted to sell it. told me to load it up and get it out of there. of course i was going to take it. cant beat a price tag of free.99.
So i got it home and started to go through things. decided i wanted to make this sled as nice as possible and show the old timer how good it could look again. a few things were missing. couple dents in the pan and a crack in the frame where the exhaust rubbed through. inside the pan was caked with a layer of grease. (preserved the paint really well too) seat was tore up but foam is good. windshield is cracked.
so the disassemble began. pressure washed everything. even got a donor parts 76 liquifire 340 from a coworker that was in rough shape and had some major front end damage from being wrapped around a tree. this sled aided in some of the missing parts i needed (including the two carbs and intake i needed for a dual carb swap)

Re: 76 cyclone 440 resurrection
over the last week and a half i have gotten it fully stripped. most parts sand blasted except the really big stuff, paint has been ordered and just arrived yesterday. Thanks Dennis from vintage sled paints! Cant wait to get started painting this weekend.
In the mean time i decided to tackle disassembling the rear skid and rebuild it. i started with rebuilding the idler wheels. new bearings, new rivets, and a polish job. the rear skid shock needs to be replaced along with the hyfax. currently seeking both, prefer new ones over used. rest of the parts are sandblasted and waiting to be painted this weekend as well.
After that i decided to start with the motor, after pulling the clutch and seal protector plate i almost wasnt going to replace the crank seals because it looked brand new. i talked myself into doing so just be sure. glad i did because the inside of the seal on the pto side had a tear where it rode on the crank shaft. while dissasembling the to halves i found 3 studs stripped so i am currently waiting on the arrival of new studs thanks to brock (skoalmint) for helping me out with those.
