1972 john deere 400 no spark
hey i have no spark on a 72 john deere 400, its in really good shape and would like to ride it this winter, its been stored in a barn for years, i tried cleaning the points and magneto pick up, still no spark, i was gunna try new coils but wanted to know other things to try before i spend the money on new coils

Did you rule out that it's a wiring issue in the sled by disconnecting the harness from the engine?

If it's no spark at all on both sides, you may want to go through all your connections with a fine tooth comb and make sure everything is clean. You could have 2 bad coils but it could be something simpler.

I have the same issue on my 500. Both holes dead. I haven't looked anything over yet. But I am interested in what you find as the culprit.

Points. Pull them out and make sure they are clean, and that they will pass juice.

tested both the stator and coils, coils ended up being bad, tried 3 more sets off motors around my house and there all bad to, looks like im getting new coils, cleaned the point to while i was in there and with the new coils it has great spark and runs amazing now, thanks for the imput! Cheers
