Up for sale is a 1982 Sportfire. The seat, hood, decals and paint on everything but the suspension and exhaust is original.
I went through the engine and installed new Wiseco pistons, gaskets and rod bearings. Jerome went through the crank and installed new PTO bearings. The cylinders were pristine. At this point, there is an hour or so of run time on the motor and the heads have been re-torqued per the dealer service manual.
I rebuilt the suspension with some new bearings and a new shock. Everything is greased and all shafts move freely.
I installed a Liquifire driveshaft and chaincase with 4 new bearings and the Sportfire gear ratio. The primary was taken apart and cleaned. I installed the weights, pins and spring from a clutch I rebuilt in 2009 and used very little. ( less than 100 miles) I also took the NOS spring from that sled and put it in this one. The secondary has no rust on the sheaves.
The carb was rebuilt with a new float valve, lines and PJ o-ring. All lines are Tygon and all filters are Visu-filter brand. The oil injection is bled out and primed, the handwarmers work well and all lights work and function as intended. I installed a 10k RPM tach because I can't seem to locate my stash of 8k ones.
The seat is original and supple. The vinyl is not pulling from the plywood at all. 1 tee-nut did break loose when I went to bolt it back in. It holds down fine. There are a few hot patches from some small holes. The sled never spent a night outside so the seat never got rained on.
The windshield is original and not really trail worthy. I am trying to find the Sno-Stuff mid-height replacement on eBay because it's about as close to original looking as you're going to get. That will also be included with the sled. I will include and extra John's sport seat with the sled so the new owner doesn't have to worry about riding with the original vacuum formed seat. It also comes with the original chaincase and gear set, the tach knockout plug, and original OM, 2 keys on a JD keychain, an Arctic Cat Speedo drive (on it when I bought it) and some other odds and ends. I can work out delivery in Minnesota and can help arrange transportation if distance is an issue. I travel to Des Moines, IA and Denison, IA (Omaha area) fairly often and can deliver along those routes.
My price is $2000 and is negotiable. I will also consider trades. The main reason I am selling is because I found an equally nice original 295/S that just got serviced at the owners local Deere dealer. He owned the shop that sold it new and was the original buyer. In order to keep myself from becoming too sled wealthy and to keep my hobby self-sustaining, I need to sell one to buy the other. If I don't sell it by winter, it will be spotted at various shows and rides and will still be for sale. More pics and videos available upon request.
