Hi All,
Looking for some help here... 1979 JD Spitfire with the Kohler motor. Took out the motor and replaced the oil seals, the CDI, the Voltage regulator, and the coil. Also cleaned all the electrical components, new choke & throttle cable. Cleaned flywheel magnets and stator magnets. Removed gas tank, cleaned out all old gas/dirt, and then installed a new gas pickup in the tank. All new fuel lines, filter, and fuel pump. Basically all replace-able parts are new.
I ditched the old butterfly Mikuni carb, as it was too much hassle to repair. I got a new Mikuni VM30 ad installed it. Last night I fired it up for the first time, having just finished the motor. It kicked over right away! Ran good and idled good. I stopped the motor to raise the garage door. I then shut off the gas line (I installed a shutoff) and went to run it and clear out the lines/carb of gas.
Again, it fired right up and ran for a minute. Then several things happened at once. First, the PTO flywheel released and the engine spun up (I believe now that it was stuck until last night). At the same time the throttle cable had popped out of the carb (I must have installed it wrong). Also, the carb was spewing gas out of it. The engine was now racing at WOT all on its own, so I turned it off with the kill switch...
My question is, with the throttle cable installed properly (which I will do tonight), should that take care of the gas flying out of the carb? Also, has anyone experienced the flywheel sticking and then releasing like that?
Just looking for a little reassurance that there isn't something else to consider. Thanks in advance...
Chris

Re: Kohler K340-2FA help
Ok... so in my haste to get her running the other night, i put the slide in the carb upside down. Now that it is in properly, she is running well and just need some tuning... I have a 30 second video... How do I post it here?
Re: Kohler K340-2FA help
You need to post the video to Youtube, and then post the link to that site here.

Re: Kohler K340-2FA help
Sounds nice. I would like to duplicate your carb set up. Can I get info on what jets your running. I'm struggling to get the inlet needle to seat in the stock carb. Thanks.
Re: Kohler K340-2FA help
