Electric Strat Kawasaki

Post by hounds84lhs »

Hi, I am fed up with trying to pull start my sleds, especially with two bad shoulders. I have two Kawasaki Intruder engines that have electric start. Both would have to be rebuilt. I have two of my Trailfires with recently rebuilt engines. Would it be smarter to take the parts off the Intruder motors and put them on the current sled engines, or rebuild the Kawasakis. I am pretty sure the rebuild would consist of clean up and all new seals and gaskets. If I go with the rebuild, can I use the single carb set up of the JD sleds or should I do dual carbs as they were set up?? I have the cdi and ignition harness from the Intruder. Let me know what you guys think would be the best.

Thanks

Always go the factory way... KISS, keep it simple stupid haha.
That is always the best resale value too
Many new and used parts available, I ship anywhere. Thanks everyone.

Putting an Intruder engine in a Trailfire would be a lot of work. You would need to modify a Sportfire engine mounting plate to make it fit.

Taking the E-start parts off an Intruder engine and installing them on a Trailfire engine would be relatively easy

Just found one major problem. The Trailfire engine has a solid casting?? It doesn't even have the back bracket holes tapped. I am guessing it would be a bad idea to try and cut out the starter hole.....correct? :bonk:

This is fun hobby...right? lol

Just a question on the early reply. The Trailfire has the A engine, the Sportfire has the B engine and the Intruder has the C. What would be the major problem with fitting it in the Trailfire engine bay?

Thanks again for all your help.

Trailfire engines are shorter than Sportfire engines and Intruder engines are longer yet. neither Sportfire engines or Intuder engines will bolt to the Trailfire engine plate. An inruder engine would bolt to a Sportfire plate, but It still wouldn't fit in a Trailfire chassis with out modifications to move it to the right a few inches. The Intruder is a dual carb engine. If you got it to fit you would need a Liquifire air box and throttle cable.

There are instructions in the tech section for adding electric start to a Liquifire engine. They could be used to drill the holes needed in your Trailfire engine.

I'm surprised your Trailfire engine has a solid casting!

Any chance you can post some pics>

Thanks for the explanation. Now that I have them side by side I can see the difference and see how much work it would be to swap. I will try to get a pic of the engine. I did check my other 5 sleds and they all have the opening covered by the plate. I will have update one of them. I don's have the original engine in my 83 TF, which was the sled I was going to update.

Now switching to another question. Has any one used the fly wheel and starter from a 440 kawasaki jet ski? Thanks again for any advice.

Several years ago I looked into the jet ski starters a little. A co-worker had a starter from a stand up jet ski sitting on the shelf......it was a little different. The starter mounting holes were threaded instead of through holes. I think there were other small differences. At the time I was curious if they were a direct replacement. With some modifications it may work. I never looked at it that hard. I'll see if I have photos.
