Theres a wire coming off your CDi connector the goes to the dash sure sure that is connected. The eng will run w/o the wires connected. You must ground it out to shut it off.

As JDX mentioned, start with checking the plug connector at the engine for the main wiring harness. It has to be plugged in to stop the engine.
If the white wire was removed from the connector due to the service bulletin issued back in the day, check to see if it is connected directly to the white wire at the ignition switch. This must be hooked up to shut off the engine.

Yes, that black wire gets connected to the white wire of the wiring harness thru the connector unless it was removed as I stated earlier.

thanks guys i guess i need a cdi box then, wire is broke off right at the box where the wires go in, unless u guys now of anyway bypass that wire or another way to shut off the sled that wont hurt it. after seeing joe rainvilles parts supply i wonder if he has one laying around( i live about 40 minites from him) figured this would happen when we had snow and i could ride.

Thats to bad, there is no way to safely repair the wire. The only solution is to replace the cdi box. That is not going to be cheap unless you can find a known good used one.

I wonder if you could short out both leads (red and white wire going to the coils) with the kill switch or key. Its not pretty But it may shut it down w/o ruining the CDI box or u plug the cdi connector that will shut it down for sure w/o hurting the cdi. (not real quick though) just a thought, not recommending it

JDX gave me an idea, since the cdi should be replaced anyway what ever damage is not going to matter. You could install a double pole switch somewhere and unhook the red and white leads to the external coils and hook each of those wires to switch. Then run a wire from each opposite terminal of the switch to the correct coil. Figure out which direction of the switch "turns on" the wires and the engine will run. To shut off the engine, move the switch to the opposite side. All the switch is doing is disconnecting the power to the external coils thus loosing the spark.
Note... this is only a suggestion, not responsible if the stator burns out.
