1975 john deere spark help

Post by jsdogg99 »

i have a 75 JD300E, kohler 290cc, axial fan, K2952AX. lookin at the coil packs as you sit on the seat the right side has spark left side doesn't. changed the coil pack and still no spark on left side, 1. now both blue wires coming from engine are power from points am i right? 2.the two brown wires both lead together from the coil packs and ground inside the coil pack housing, and it grounds where? 3.so to check for power from points i would use a meter (which i have) set to amperage? 4.is there a way to clean points without having to tear apart flywheel ect.

There is an access window on the flywheel that gives you room to gap or clean the points one set at a time.

You won't be able to read amps as the level is in the micro range.
You can read volts with a sensitive meter but with a digital it may not be fast enough to respond to the pulses.
Using continuity or OHMs wil give you a better picture while slowly turning the engine over by hand.

You have one side working so the readings on the other side should be similar.
