ANOTHER SLED PROJECT... SPRINTFIRE #2

The rear light was gone. But I had an idea about using a LED-light.

So I bought a rear light with brake light. I glued it to a John Deere rear light glass. (same as old Polaris)





Mounted it on the rear of the seat.

The bushing for the steering was gone, just the collar left




Found a black piece of plastic and put in the lathe, a few minutes later I had a new good bushing and the steering was tight again

Engine going back in









Don't have a airbox for this sled, but a cheap fiddy foam filter will have to doo.



But the foam is too compact, so it needs modifications...

Bumper was not pretty...



but after som black paint and a racing red tape, it looks much better

The exhaust on the sled was far from origiinal.
I think that the pipe was from a Ski-Doo, but I'm not sure. The muffler is some kind of motorcycle muffler I guess...

Modified the pipe holder to get a better angle on the pipe

Some cut and weld and the muffler is back on pipe, in a slightly different angle.




There are big ugly holes in the belly



But a piece of strong blue plastic in the right shape will do the trick







And exhaust fits perfect!

When I got the sled there was a P85 primary clutch on, but it was just just thrown on by previous owner because he did not have the original.
I made some detective work and found the guy who had the right clutch.



At first I was glad that I found the clutch... but after checking it out, I found out why it had been swapped out.
The dude had tried to pull it of with brute force and not with a clutch puller, so it was bent and bruised





I had two bad Comet 108, but with some luck and new parts I was sure that I could make one good clutch



Some new parts...



The rollers I got was for the wide rollers, so I machined out the spider some



And just to keep the right look, I put the JD clutch cover on



It works

The sled looks a bit better now compared to when I got it
The only thing left to do is making a belt cover and the hood has to be painted.
But the sled is now tucked away in a shed while I am digging in to some other sled projects.
