1978 Cyclone 340 clutching issue
Hey, just finished redoing bearings on a cyclone, the motor is out of a 1977 same with the secondary, i got it running and idling perfect, installed the belt and the sled barely has enough power to move itself with no one on it, wondering if its a clutch issue? if so what cam arms and spring should i order and is there repalcment springs for the secondary. hoping to get it out before the snow flys.
Thanks for the help

Make sure that there is nothing in the drive that is restricting operation.
Raise the rear of the machine and rotate the secondary clutch by hand.
Does it turn freely?

Clutch tuning wouldn't stop your sled from moving. Most likely it's an engine issue and it won't rev up under load. But before that, back to the clutches - when parked, does the belt have some slack? When parked, the belt should sit just above the edge of the secondary clutch, which is shown in the operator's manual I believe.

I’ll check out the engine, and belt sits almost flush seems odd but it’s a brand new belt dayco 3012 I believe I was given, you wouldn’t happen to know the jetting maybe I’ll try new jets the carb could be off anouther machine

Re: 1978 Cyclone 340 clutching issue
okay finally had time to dig into the sled again, im thinking its a fuel issue, motor has 150-145 each cylinder, when pulling over with no plugs in one side has massive amount of fuel coming out, could it be a reed issue? still looking for the fuel jetting set up and clutch if anyone knows. Thanks

Sounds like it is only firing on one cylinder.
A twin hitting on one can sound fine at idle but will have little to know power to move.
This would also explain one side being drenched in fuel when you took out the plug.

Thats my assumption now, great spark both sides but fuel delivery is way to much to the pto side, should i try swapping out the reed for another? i have a parts motor here i can borrow one from.

Have you done anything with the fuel pump yet? I've heard of fuel pumps going bad and dumping fuel into the crankcase through the impulse line. Is the side that is flooding the one the impulse is connected to?farmboy186 wrote:okay finally had time to dig into the sled again, im thinking its a fuel issue, motor has 150-145 each cylinder, when pulling over with no plugs in one side has massive amount of fuel coming out, could it be a reed issue? still looking for the fuel jetting set up and clutch if anyone knows. Re: 1978 Cyclone 340 clutching issue
okay changed out fuel pump runs better now, im having an issue with the fuel still, the rpm will fluctuate without touching any controls sometimes screaming high and other times it will die, plugs look to be burning correct and even now, anyone have this issue?
