1981 Liquifire barn find

Hello all! Yesterday I bought an amazing barn find in Montana. The last registration was in 1990. It seems to be in very good original condition. No rust anywhere on it! Compression feels good and even. Today will be my clean the dust and barn straw off of it. Here is the first picture as it came out of the barn. I grew up racing 1970 Scorpion Stingers. That tells you how old I am! This will be my first ever ride on a John Deere!

Windshield helps looks, but I wish it was a little lower.

I finally got the beast running!

Congrats on what appears to be a nice sled. Give it a bath and post some more pictures. By the way, the decals and paint scheme indicate a 1981 model, but check the build date and serial number. 81 production started with 155,001 and the build date will be in 1980. How many miles showing? Be sure to change the crank seals......

Looks to be a nice 81! Congrats on the find. Now you will be hooked by the Deere like the rest of us! They multiply quickly. We hope to visit Red lodge next summer when we head up to Glacier.

You appear to be correct! It was built in 09 of 80. Serial number is 155986M.
Thanks for the information!

I've read about the crank seals. I guess I'll find out how hard that job is!

Guess I'm not the only JD sled owner in RL, what barn did you find it in!?

I have a very clean '81 as well that I bought from a member in WI on here.

Looking good and it looks like you may need a windshield. Joe Rainville (aka JDJoe) has reproduced the original sport windshield for it. He is a famous member on this site. His windshields are excellent quality. They say the ones you can buy from the popular sled stores are flimsy and fold over at speed and also the wrong height (too tall).

Thanks for this information. I noticed a windshield on YouTube that was folding back at speed. I wouldn't like that! I'll get it ordered today.
