Sportfire service manual

Post by nick80lf »

Has anyone besides me noticed some of the photos in the carburetor section of the Sportfire service manual are actually photos of a Liquifire?

This just about caused me to lose the few remaining marbles I have tonight, especially where it talks about the orientation of the float arm. This had me really messed up until I noticed the location of the down tube for the choke circuit.

I also just about convinced myself that the float arm on the sportfire is not bent, again pretty sure that's a photo of a liquifire carb.

Hi Nick, it has been a while. I think you may be able to confirm your finding by comparing the photo numbers, SF vs LF, located on the lower right of each photo, small print. I think JD numbered each photo in the manuals, but I did not try to fully understand your post.

If memory serves, Sportfires have a power jet carburetor, 34mm instead of the 36's on a Liquifire. Pics could be largely interchangeable for the innards.

Unfortunately I can't quite make out the photo numbers in the Sportfire service manual (I'm working with the scanned copy from vintagesnow.com and they are quite blurry), but I think you are correct Guy.

As I was looking through the Sportfire manual I noticed the shape of the float arm in the photo and started to get concerned because my float arm didn't look the same. Initially I was thinking someone before me had installed the incorrect parts (since this is the first Sportfire I've worked on). After awhile I realized most of the carb photos in the Sportfire manual are actually the VM36 size carb.

Here's a photo of the Sportfire carb I'm working on.Image

You're right. The shape of the bowl in those pics is also the VM36 and larger.
