Rails for slide rail susspension?

Post by farleyjd400 »

Slide rails (2).JPG
I bought these rails with all the parts to go with it in a package deal with a track. I have never seen rails like these before. These rails are the exact same rails that are on my 76-77 cyclones but look to be built a little stronger. These rails also have an extra lower hole on each side to mount the pivot arm with the adjusting bolts lower. The stop for the bolts is also different, it is flat and long unlike the small block on the ones i have. There is also one extra hole on each side for idler wheels and the wheels were included. does anybody know what these are? They are painted yellow and im going to repaint them black. Hopefully the pictures will load. The picture of the black rail is what im used to seeing.

Thanks

I need to compare it to one at home, but I think you have either a 340/s or a Dator rail. What idler wheel did it come with, and where was it bolted on?

I'm glad you responded Joe, I've been curious about these rails. It looks like the idler wheel will bolt between the holes in the picture. Between the 2 front holes and the hole in the back there is a smaller hole in the middle of these holes and Im assuming this hole is for the idler wheel. What would be the benefit to moving the pivot arm to the lower hole, less ski pressure? I have the rails painted black now and was going to use them on a Cyclone project but now im wondering if I should not use them for the Cyclone, specially if they are Dator rails.

Thanks Andy

Hi Andy,

I had some brain fade after looking at my skids. The 340/s and the Dator rails have large round tubes welded to them for spring mounts instead of having springs at the top like the LF/Cyclone/JDX set up.

So the only sleds left are the slide rail 295/s of 74, the JDX's of 74-75, and the Liquifire/Cyclones of 76-77.

Are you sure the 77 was exactly the same as 76? If so, that leaves the JDX's and 295/s. I do have a 75 JDX's to look at yet...

Andy, Joe,

Here is what my 75' JDX8 skid looked like right after I got done with it for the restoration in 2016. I don't see those extra mounting holes or that larger tab for the ski pressure adjustment like on the yellow one pictured.

This is starting to get interesting that nobody can identify these rails. Yes I am positive the rails from a 77 are the same as a 76, as I have both. I also had some rails from the mid mounts to compare, as Jason showed in his pictures. What would be the benefit to moving the front pivot arm to the lower mounting hole? these rails are defiantly built better than the stock ones and it does not look like these were modified by somebody but you never know.
