Need advice on how this engine looks inside

Post by Snowslider »

Hey guys I have it all apart and would like advice on the following please.

How do the pistons look?
What's the best way to remove all the old gasket material?
How do I clean off piston heads?
Since I have gone this far should I open un the crankcase and inspect or not bother it feels pretty smooth and looks very clean inside?

Thanks

Those pistons look pretty good.. keep going and doing fresh crank seals. How are the cylinders ?
Many new and used parts available, I ship anywhere. Thanks everyone.

The pictures don't reveal everything but I just don't see much wrong with those pistons. How are the jugs? Go the rest of the way and install new crank seals since you've gone this far since keeping the crankcase clean while peeling off the gasket remnants will be difficult. Be careful to not remove aluminum while taking the gasket remnants off the jugs and case. Mild abrasive wheel or a Dremel tool with a softer wire brush will work. It's almost as if you want to polish the stuff off, if you catch my drift.

Yes, it doesn't look too bad. You might as well split the case and evaluate the condition of the center seals. You cannot replace them yourself, but they could be the cause of your issues. Also, the outside seals are more easily replaced with the case split.

Yah I guess since I’ve gone this far might as well open it right up.

You mentioned if that if the inner seals needs to be done that I can’t do it myself so how does one replace them then?

Does the camshaft have to be taken somewhere? I’m assuming it because the bearings would need to be pressed off the Cam is that correct?

Thx

You must mean the crankshaft...
Jerome at Crankshaft Services can check it out for you and install new inner seals. He's a great guy and a sponsor of this website.
