Crankshaft seal Kohler 300

Post by Snowslider »

Hey Guys,

Just wondering how the crankshaft seal on the PTO side is installed or does it matter? Should it be installed from the front side of the plate, picture 1, or the back side of the plate, picture 2?

It is a very tight fit, any advice on how to press it into place?

Thanks

Thanks,

Is there an easy way to press it into position so as not to wreck it?

A chunk of 2x4 and a bench vise works well. Lube the outer edge and go slow to be sure it is going in straight.

Great thanks for the help.

What works well for lubrication? Just a little light oil?

Thx

Make sure the crankshaft is nice and clean and rust free before you install the crankshaft seal. Make sure there are no ridges in the crank either. Otherwise the seal can become damaged during the install and have a shortened life. I just installed new seals on my TF440 during a rebuild and used a lathe to remove a little surface rust and polish the exposed ends of the crank. I used white lithium grease to lube the seal and crank shaft prior to installation of the crankshaft seals.

My 2 cents!
