1980 trailfire 440 barn find problems

Post by Cole4430 »

I recently aquired a 1980 trailfire 440 with a stuck motor. Didn’t think much of it as I have rebuild a 340 before. Getting to the point, I got it back to the shop and realized the throttle was stuck too. I went ahead and started taking the air box off when I found a mice nest packed all the way to the carb and finally took the carb off. There’s just one problem I can’t get the throttle cable off because like I said before the throttle is stuck. I need a solution for getting the jet and throttle out.Open to try anything and any suggestions or help. Thanks

Might try soaking the entire carb in a gallon of dip type carb cleaner, something like berrymans or napa. If it does come apart the carb still may not be usable. Mouse piss can do a number on the small drilled passages.

Before going much further with the carb, I would pull the engine and split the case and inspect the crank to determine why it is siezed.

Ok thanks, I will try that. I posted a pic of when I picked it up and after I washed it off. Thanks
