Molded 80-84 Liquifire Seat Update 12/18

Hi Guys,

Despite it taking much, much longer than I prefer, I am finally supposed to receive the first two sample molded seat covers in January. I have also placed the production order for the first 50 covers to start once I approve the samples. I would like to have them with me at the HoF for you guys to inspect, but based on how long to tooling took I can't promise anything.

These covers will fit the 80-84 Liqufire and Sportfire. I should be able to hold the price at $180 each.

After the production samples are test fit and approved, I can take pre-orders. I will offer free domestic shipping and maybe a small discount off two covers or such for you guys would like to pre-pay.

Dave and guys,

The model for this seat was a very soft NOS 84 Liquifire seat that was kept out of the sunlight since new. It was still very soft and pliable so the vinyl hadn't shrunk and pulled the foam tight. It was the best model I could find to reverse engineer.

For a proper fit, you will probably have to steam your original foam to get it to 'spring back' once the original seat cover has been removed.

These covers should fit as good as the originals with a better quality material. Assuming this project is successful, I will drop off an NOS 78 Cyclone seat to quote having 73-78 ribbed 2-up seat covers done next, unless you guys would rather see 78 Liquifire's done first.

I am so damn excited to get one of these to put on my original low mile 1980.
It sounds like we will have another home run outta of the park re-pro from Joe Rainville.

What ever you do Joe helps this hobby and keeps these sleds functional and forever alive.
I would like to say again thanks for taking the initiative and seeing this through.
Personally I know what it is like trying to get parts reproduced from the muscle car hobby.
Easy is not one of the many 4 letter words used during the process !!

Ahhh for Christmas I would like a molded re-pro of the Dator seat please Santa Rainville ?

Hi Guys,

I was just informed that samples are shipping out this week. Finally, after dropping off a seat back in November of 2017 for quote, the tooling is done and I will have samples in my hands soon.

I will share pic's once I get one mounted up. I am told by John of "John's Upholstry" that I will need to steam the old foam to get it back to shape. I have several Liquifire's that could use molded seats, so I am looking forward to receiving the production order as much as you guys are.

I was informed today that my vendor is shipping the first four seat samples today! This is a few weeks later than they hoped, but they are finally on route to Fort Worth. I will have a few foams and plywood sets prepped as soon as I can. If the fit and finish it acceptable, I will cut them loose on a full production run as soon as possible.

Thanks for taking on this huge task and creating another great product for everyone. My vote would be for the 78 LF as well but I understand that is a smaller market and may not make the most sense from a tooling vs volume perspective.

Hello Dave and JDsledder's,

The first 4 samples came in oversized from the NOS seat, but the general shape was pretty accurate. I requested the tool be reworked, as the width was more off then the length, but it was hard to describe in pictures and words where and how the sample covers were off, so I finally scheduled a meeting with the vendor. I brought them one of the samples and the NOS seat back to clearly illustrate the fitment issues.

They think some 'shrink' was engineered into the tool, but in the wrong direction. They are going rework the tool and get me new samples within the next few months...hopefully. We agreed that new samples should fit tightly over the factory seat, and I left that with them for fitment testing.

I will keep you all posted, as after two years I am looking forward to having sellable products. I also let them know that once we get this right, I have 3-4 more seats I would like to get done as enticement to finish this project.

We all appreciate you stepping up and taking on this monumental task. I'm sure it is been filled with much frustration.
But hopefully you will see some continuing positive results moving forward and have an excellent final product by year end.
