Crankshaft work
Hi everyone,
I’m sort of new on here and do not know anyone. I like all the knowledge you all have. I was wondering if anyone has used millennium technologies for crank and cylinder work? I’m trying to get a couple of 80 sportfire sleds going. I would like to get cylinders done and see if I can get cranks balanced. Was wondering if anyone has had crank balancing done? Thanks

Re: Crankshaft work
I personally know guys who have used the services of Northern Crankshaft in Thief River Falls, MN. and I know guys here who have used Millennium for cylinder work. There is also US Chrome. Crank balancing is outside of my experience, perhaps someone can chime in here.

Thanks Brian, yeah I’m sure crankshaft balance is kind of crazy with press together crankshaft but figured it doesn’t hurt to ask. I’ve always had done with v8. Trying to make it the best I can where possible.

I have had Jerome Kretzman of Baxter MN do several cranks for me, but he doesn't do cylinder work as far as I know. He was a mechanic for Team Deere back in the day.

Wow that’s awesome! How did you get ahold of him? Does he still do work? That would be fun to talk with him, he probably has all kinds of information.

Jerome is excellent. He's busy but there's a reason for that.

Re: Crankshaft work
I've had millennium give cylinders the nikasil treatment. This was probably 5 years ago or so and I have no complaints.

Re: Crankshaft work
The experience that I am hearing is that the Nikasil plating works well on aluminum bores, but despite their claim that they can plate steel bores as well, that doesn't seem to be working in the field.

Re: Crankshaft work
Hey thanks for info everyone!!
So I guess my next question do you guys know what kind of rings they originally used on the chrome cylinders? Millennium didn’t know, I believe they are regular cast rings originally. I have new Kawasaki rings and pistons for my build.

Joe Rainville has personal experience with this question. He needs to weigh in here.
