My first Jd.
Well guys its been a interesting month for me. I bought a jdx8 to help out my daughter who had bought a jdx4 for her boyfriend. My original goal was to get some parts to swap for her 73 but having known nothing about jds I later found out that nothing much interchanges between the two. I then decided to restore the jdx8, but after tear down the crank was rusted up solid. I then found another donor sled that had even better body b
ut was also down in engine department with bent rod. I decided to use the second chassis but went through two more engines to find good crank. Next was finding pistons which also became a struggle as I understand not making new ones. I do have some ordered off ebay. I’ll post pics of my finds below. Thanks Steve.
We used high pressure water from steamer to remove most of paint.

Good work on finding some other donor sleds, as it will definitely help with your parts. Finding the 75' X8s gets you some specific items to that year, such as the tuned pipe... they're getting harder to find.
You'll also want to look at the drive shafts and drive wheels as many originally had the white Gates drive wheels which suck. Only ones that are any good are the black PPD wheels. Keep those if you find them.
Also the tach's must be the ones that go to 10,000 RPM, as the 8,000 will not read correctly with the signals from the trigger / stator.
Did your sleds have the CDI already? I think some originally came with points ignitions.. I know for fact that the 800's were that way, so finding the CDI upgrade is nice.
Good luck on this resto.

Also, there's several of us who have rebuilt the Walbro WRA-31 carb, which this sled would have came with. We can help with that rebuild, and there is a good tutorial that I've saved which goes through the step by step process.

Got most of body work finished. Decal shop said they having tough time getting the white reflective pin stripe. Sent enough to get tunnel covered. Might go with yellow for bumper.

Thanks. I do have dibs on one more and have enough engine parts to fix. May do a twin if all goes good.
