1976 300 restore now lost spark need help

Post by Donald »

I grew up riding a 76 JD300. This winter I stumbled onto a 76 300 in a barn the supposedly ran but was seized from sitting. I bought it, torn down the engine and found a main bearing coming apart, missing balls and lots of internal damage including crank, No problem found a 2952AX that had good compression and spark but no carb. If you sprayed gas in the intake it would fire!!. I bought it but it was clearly leaking between the case halves so I got gaskets seals and rings and gave it a cleanup and rebuilt the Tilliston off the original engine. After I got it all back together I had no spark on #2. After checking wiring and points it now has no spark on either! I have a Kolher service manual for K2952AX and it has wiring diagrams everything is correct to the book. What I do not have is JD wiring diagram or any specs to test the low tension coils. The high tension coils are making spark when I isolate and test them so I believe the problem in the stator, points coil area.

Does anyone have wiring diagrams, coil specs or advice?

I have not connected to the Sled wiring yet but it used to spark and fire on the bench when not connected so I do not think that is the problem.

Appreciate any help I can get.

Resolved, second primary coil wire was not connecting back at the harness plug. Have spark on both now!
