Impromptu nostalgia race
Guys went to nostalgia race with 76 liquifire. Racing approximately 1/8 mile. The jd came in 3rd basically. The yellow 5500 blizzard took first and kawi intruder 2nd. I could get the kawi with the husband on as a little heavier but his wife drove mostly and she clip me at 3/4 track. The 5500 was strong he start leaving me at mid track. Hitting about 70 at stripe. The jdx8 was right there in 4th. The jdx8 surprised a lot of them. Including me.

Re: Impromptu nostalgia race
I need to step it up. Can a 81 liquifire be modded enough to kick a 9500?

That all depends on how deep your pockets are. Can it? Yes. Affordably? No.

Not to worried about affordable. Just wanna surprise a few. I’ve ran skidoo’s my whole life. Hopped up 521(537 type) and triples,700,800 rotax. Never new anything about jd till I bought the 75 jdx8. The power of that sled is impressive. I beat a 6500 blizzard two outta three runs. The 76 liquifire was that little extra and handling so much better. I no nothing of the Kawasaki but possibly with twin pipes, peel heads down and some c12 mix she do the job !! I just think John deere was ahead of the curve back then. Especially pre 79.

Properly designed twin pipes, Kawasaki six port cylinders, Deere heads with combustion chambers cut for proper quench, and Wiseco pistons along with an HSR off an 82-84 will go along way to waking it up. Kelly Voss would be a good person to get some information from as he has done a fair amount of dyno work on this engine. He is on the JD Facebook groups. There is also a Polaris ignition that will work very similarly to the HSR, but I can't remember it off the top of my head.

Re: Impromptu nostalgia race
I have some handwritten notes from a racer back in the day. I can dig them out and peruse and see what's there. The notes are a couple notebook pages long and pretty much deal with all manner of tips and modifications that include engine work.

Thanks guys. Are the 6 port jugs on just the Ltd? Or did the invaders all run those?
