John Deere 600

Post by crraasch »

I have zero experience with John Deere sleds but have the opportunity to get a 600 for a good deal. I am trying to figure out the year to determine how hard it will be to find seals, gaskets, and the parts ill need to get it running. I was told the serial number is 00515m. Could anyone tell me what year it is based on that? Also, if anyone has information on seals and parts for these 600's let me know. Thanks!

It should be a 72-75. Here is a link for parts. You will need to put the info in the parts search pull downs. Just put in a 74 for the year. Not sure if the VIN plate is the same as the 76 and up sleds. The plate may show a manufacture date in a month and year. So if the plate says 7-74, it is a 75 model year.

If they do not have what you are looking for, E Bay is another option. Just put in John Deere 600 in the search.

Looks like there were 2 different engines for the 600, is that correct? both look to be 440's but different manufacturers. Is one better than the other?

Welcome Cooper,
None of the serial numbers start with 0, the first year of sleds stared with 11,000, so they may have mis-read the first digit. The engines are slightly different models, and there were only minor updates between them.
