340/5 ccw ring gear question for experts

Hello guys, I am removing all of the electric start stuff off of my 1972 JD 400. Can I remove the ring gear off of the flywheel? Is there any difference with the 340's that did not have electric start? I know the ring adds rotational mass. But as for balance I do not know. Thanks!

I’m fairly certain that all ccw 340s (or at least the 5+ I’ve had apart) had the ring gear regardless of if it had electric start or not.
