Lubricating slide suspension shaft

Post by sserven »

What does everyone use to lubricate the aluminum shafts in the suspension of a 78.spitfire? I've got mine all out and they had some old grease on them when I took them out. Was wondering if I should use anti seize, grease or oil for lube when I put them all back together. Sled won't see a lot of miles here in Illinois so it will be sitting most of it's life.

Welcome!

I always just pulled them every year, clean off the old grease, and coat them with fresh waterproof grease. Then put them back in. Good thing you are doing this. They are a real pain to get out if they were not greased every year! If not done, then the suspension arm pivots on the bolt that goes through the tunnel. Not on the shaft.

Thanks for the reply. What do you use for water proof grease?

Back in the 80's when a Deere was my main sled, I used marine grease that you would use on boat trailer bearings. Now I just use the Ski Doo waterproof suspension grease because that is what is in my snowmobile grease gun. You can still use the boat grease. You should be able to find it at Wal Mart or any auto parts store.
