340 Trailfire secondary shims?

Post by RaggedyRed »

Hello all this is my first post so i apologies in advance if I'm in the wrong place or if I'm doing this right. . . But I have Trail fire with (S# J340FH S#098416m D.O.M 09/78) My question is Part Number M66518 Qty Req 2 Part Number M66519 Qty Req 1. When i pulled my secondary off i had 1 of M66518 and only 2 of the M66519. According to John Deere parts book (link below)

I have the opposite of what I'm suppose to have? Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

These shims are used to adjust the belt tension as the belt wears. I've never been too concerned about the number of shims. I just add or remove shims to get the correct belt tension. In all honesty when I have measured the thickness of the shims on my sleds, they seem all over the place.

Removing shims will tighten the belt. You can find service and operator manuals on a website called vintage snow.
