Well as you guys may know I got my latest dator around the new year. Well I have been working on it since and was just about ready to crank her up (first time in 25+yrs) I had cleaned everything up, and ready to go (or so i thought). The only things I had left to do was add antifreeze and mixed gas and she should fire. Well after I got the antifreeze added it started to leak everywhere around the thermostat gsk and head gasket! Well I drained the antifreeze and remved the head to find more orange RTV than head gasket.

:o Needless to say I was disappointed but not really surprised. (as this dator was parts the other one I have) So I will have to wait till I can obtain a top end gsk set now. Least now I do feel better why I had only 65 psi on the cylinders. (figured they were just kinda dry from sitting.) Pistons do look pretty good. I cked them through the intake and exhaust ports and sparkplug hole. Never thought the headgasket would be as it is. Good thing it never run like this. It hasn't broke my heart yet (I haven't gotten my wild ride yet) this is only a set back. And don't worry Jon the 340/s is waiting in the wings. Saving the best for last.
I will post pics later.

Not being a " I've seen that and done that before know it all kinda guy".

That's as bad as the carb rebuild I saw done several years back on a quadra-jet carb, you guessed it, they used silicone for the gaskets too.
