liquifire exhaust pipe

Post by qwerty »

has anyone ever cut open the pipe on an 81 liquifire? it has a headpipe like a regular tuned pipe, a diffuser cone, and then the belly extends all the way to the end of the pipe with no converging section. im thinking that there must be a converging section as well as some kind of muffler inside the outer belly. went for a brief ride today and the pipe was glowing red about 6 inches in front of where the stinger exits. im thinking i may have a rusted muffler inside the pipe that is causing this. i want to cut the pipe open to investigate but thought i would check here first. does anyone know how this pipe is designed, what i should expect inside, and where the safest place is to cut the pipe open. btw i know my jetting is a little lean. thanks in advance for your expertise and advise.

I would say that mr. or mrs. mouse has been up your pipe. Some times there are NOS mufflers on Ebay, if you don't want to cut yours & reweld it
A quit a few years ago a freind of mine stored his sled in his enclosed pourch where he also fed his dogs, that next winter he pulled the sled outside & when he pulled it over the engine only turned about 1/4 turn & locked up, after removing the muffler & y pipe we found out that the mice filled the muffler, the y pipe & the cylinder full of dog food. They must have thought it was going to be a long winter.....

cut the pipe open today and it was as clean as a whistle. at least i know how it works now. it was glowing because of a lean condition. (note to self--dont run sled without air box, even for a short while) the glow was directly adjacent to the outlet in the baffle. i took notes and pictures in case anyone else is curious what is going on inside there.

I am far from an expert. I just continue to shrink the shrunk ones til I get the size the form will take, 200KB if I remember right. Matt, JDMatt, will be able to help you. He is great on this stuff.

Matt: Can you help out?? THANKS!!

You need to change file type on the pictures, most cameras save in BMP but best for web is JPEG. A 14Mb BMP picture shrink to 80kb when saved in JPEG format.

i hope this helps the members. view of pipe body and baffle from stinger end. note- 60 holes 3/16 diameter in a 2 inch long band is all your exhaust passes through. so i drilled a few more just for good measure
