Summer Ride

Post by 75rat »

This 1975 Corvette is my summer ride and has been an on-going summer project for the last 15 years. Work on it a little, drive it a little; work on it some more.....
So far, I've restored the whole frame and driveline body. Originally 350 w/auto, now 427 w/4 spd. The body is all I left to do (paint's still all original).

BTW; The is where "75rat" originated from...75 vette with rat motor.

Mr Deere: "Wait what does the RAT stand for also nice car."

Thanks Bob,

"Rat" is old school slag for Chevy big block motors (ie; 396, 427, 454, etc.). In my case, I transplanted the 427 motor from my old race car in to the vette.

BTW; Chevy's family of small block motors (283, 307, 327, 350, etc.) were actually called "Mouse" motors back in the day.

Danzig: "You forgot the famous 409 big block......."

No, didn't forget the 409. It was (along with the 348) the first generation Chevy "big block" (Mark I series), but not considered a "Rat" motor. The "Rat designation was given to Chevy Mark 4 and later series big blocks.

Not trying to knock 409's either. They are way cool and very collectable. Nothing look's better in an early 60's Chevy than a 409 with dual carbs. I would love to have one.....

You are correct Jim, open mouth insert foot syndrome for me . Mark IV series is correct. The 409 was considered a "W" series I do believe due to the head design. However some enthusiasts due consider all big blocks as Rat motors as I have been told, it's America........ Small blocks are considered Mouse motors too, couldnt agree more with you.

Personal preference is the 383 stroker. Naturally not listed of course.
