Mikuni airbox

Post by blitzblack »

We recently got a 75 JD 800 with a Mikuni carb on it.The guy said that it was a dealer installed option.
Is this correct?and if so what does the airbox look like?

I've never heard of that as a dealer installed option, and have never seen an airbox for that.

Whoever did the install did a good job of jetting then because this thing runs really good with no hesitation and it also starts right up.
I'm just curious as to what kind of airbox should I use then. From all I've read on this site it's not good to run the engine without an airbox.

Ifit is jetted for no airbox and its correct you could run no airbox and not risk blowing it up. It would be a good idea to get a k&n or od type air filter to keep rodents or debree out howevr. You could also use a peice of metal window screen wire tyed over the inlet although primitive it will atleast keep the big stuff out.

A Mikuni in this application, doesn't give you much room to work with.
On the sled I had one on, someone had adapted an original '72 type air horn, so it could be clamped on the inlet of the Mikuni.

Something to keep the rodents out would be good.
