What type of chain is it? single roller, double roller, timing chain style? if so, how many plates wide? How long is it (not in inches, but in number of pitches). I likely have a used one if you can post some details.

I just remembered I have a 79 Citation 300 in my boneyard. I'm certain the chain is still on it and in decent shape. I'll be away for a few days, but I can try to remove and inspect it next week when I get back. I don't get onto this forum near as much in the summer as the winter, so just send me a reminder email to triumph@mts.net or call me at 204-937-2991 if you want the chain.

Pete

PS: Are you certain it is a 1979? If it is, it will be a Citation 300. If it says 3500 or 4500 anywhere on it, it will be a 1980 model and the chain will no doubt be different. I ask this because the 79's were quite uncommon, whereas the 4500's were everywhere.

Hi. Did a quick check of the parts books. 79 Citation chaincase used a 3/8 pitch, 88 link endless chain. You're in luck as this is the same chain Ski Doo used through the 70?s on a lot of sleds. Look for a 72-74 Oly with a Type 302, 337, 338, 401 or 434 engine,; 72-77 340 TNT/Everest; 75-79 340 Oly---they all used the same chain. Part number was 412 1007 00. Good luck.

green and gold i hate to say it but i must the same chain is not used on all tnts/olympics

it depended on which gears you were running i have in a drawer somewhere three different chains with matched gears from 74-76 oly and tnts. and i know that the sleds mostly had 340 or 300 engines. however since you can go direct to a dealer for parts like chains and gears especially Long established dealers.

also for the record its a bad idea to replace a chain only usually you replace both gears chain and tensioners.

Hi. As RP says, they aren?t all the same For instance, the 440s (and larger) used a triple chain; some of the earlier oly singles (and elans) used a single. As I am ? way though my Lyme disease treatment and still feeling bad, I went through all the 72-78 Ski Doo parts manuals, Olys, TNT Fans, TNT Everest, and 77 and up TNT F/As. Here?s the scoop.
All Fan cooled engine 300-340cc equipped Olys, TNT, Everests, 1972-1978, used the chain as a 79 citation with the EXCEPTION of the 1976 Olympic. There were four models of the oly made that year, and only one, the 300M, used the chain you need. The 77 TNT 340 F/A, as well as the 72 294 TNT, used the one you're looking for also.
Count links to be sure.
Good catch RP!! Good luck
