Compression - Kohler

Post by JDDDeere »

Hi everyone,

Just "rebuilt" (new gaskets and seals) a 340 Kohler F/a engine. Didn't do the rings (I should have). Anyway, I got the following compression measurements: 115 and 118 psi). This low or just about right? ON this board I have read some with compression aroun 140 and 150... hmmm

Thanks,
Dan

It will probably work best way to find out is try it. I have found different motors will do different things. Just a few examples 340 kawi motor with 105/110 comp would not start other than occasionaly on 1 cylinder now the old kohler 295 from my 300 had 75lbs both cylinders it started and ran fairly well. Just saying you cant always judge by the numbers what will happen.

The compressiion reading will change allot depending on the gauge, how hard/fast the starter cord is pulled ect. Has anyone ever tried testing a snowmobile engine with a leakdown guage? My expeariance is pretty much automotive, and this is the only way I would consider evaluating an engine. Jingles.
