I got this sled about 2 weeks ago rebuilt the carb.,Checked comp. 164 psi per side, Cleand the tank out and new gas, new everything. I gave it a couple of pulls and started right up let it idle for a bit since its been a few years since it was run then ran it around the yard a bit and parked it
. Now I went out to night and pulled and pulled but nothing looked down and its not pumping gas, <_< since i did'nt rebuild the fuel pump I put a new one on and still nada. I pulled the impulse line off and its not pumping any air out I can feel a little somthing but its not enough to do anything.
.....perhaps your choke needs to be set up.....its starts fine if you prime it with gas, but the choke does not have enough pull to start it when it is cold. I know my Sportfire was consistent for years, always start on the 3rd pull. probably something very simple......I guess a simple test to do, when the machine is running.....kick the choke lever on, if it stalls the engine, or loads it up quite substancially, its working fine, and if there is no difference, then it should be set up.
But then again, what do I know.....can't make that damn Trail Fire run....hope this helps you......later S
Yah, you got me never had this prob. before. But this is the only time I have had to prim it, So I guess I'll know more when I go out tomarrow and give it a pull.
I have had the same problem with my Sprintfire. It is like the gas is drained back out of the carb after sitting for some time. Once it is warm - it will start on the first pull every time. I have yet to figure it out ... I replaced fuel pump, lines, put a shut off on it, and the choke works fine.
I don't know what else to try ... I just have a can of ether handy ... I am waiting for Rainville to figure it out for me !!
.......Thats is a good idea.....throw a shut off valve in there, maybe it is draining back, its always a good policy to shut off the fuel anyway......might just fix the problem.....later S
Heres something to give a shot if your not getting a good pulse out of the line. You know where the line comes out of the crankcase [the fitting] well if you look on the oppisite cylinder there is a plug in the same spot. Try swapping the fitting and plug around and see if you get a good pulse from the oppisite cylinder. If you do the pto side crankseal is probably shot. If this is the case dont ride the sled until you put a seal in or you will end up with a nice hole in the piston.
Ok heres what I figured out. Now it starts with no problem. It seems that once the Gas refilled the pump again after I rebuilt it theres not a problem. I let it sit for about 3 days and and still fires right up Hmmmmmmmm WEIRD <_< so it seems the problem fixed its self.
I have expearinced a very simailar problem, and I think the cause was the needle stuck closed on the seat in the carb. One 'tap' on the carb. and all of the sudden there was gas being pumped into the float bowl. This after about 20 pulls on the cord, pulling the lines off at the tank, and the carb to check for flow. A big hammer should be part of every tool kit. Jingles.
