Spark, where are you

Post by JDDDeere »

Well, I have a completely (I mean everything, crank, pistons, seals) rebuilt sprintfire engine on the bench (340 l/c). when I turn it over (on the bench) I am not getting a spark. There is a 5 position plug that extends from the magneto/stator. some of these wires go to the cdi. Is this circuit normaly open or closed. Should I have a spark???

Also, I tried to replace the plug wires from the electronic coil. I could not get them out. Are these molded in? Hope i didn't damage them trying.

Any thoughts/suggestions much appreciated.

You have the single coil pack with 2 plug wires going in to it then yes they are molded in you cant remove them. There not like the older X's&0's were you have 2 coil's, those you can replace just the plug wire by unscrewing them. Also when I rebuilt my sport I did'nt get spark (on the bench) till I pluged all the wires back in when I put it back in the sled.

Yeah it sucks you cant change those plug wires. Every kawi fan motor Ive had apart had spark on the bench without plugging into the sled. nOT POSITIVE ON THESE MOTORS YOU HAVE BUT WOULD THINK IT SHOULD WORK WITH IT UNPLUGGED.

there is a black wire that comes out of cdi and grounds to one screw terminal where grey connector to harness is .. if that wire is not grounded to case of engine it wont spark on the bench. sometimes this wire is broken. there is also another wire that is black on some( hey i didnt design the boxes) other times red that is not supposed to be grounded.

You the man Rod. Thanks a bunch. IT was exactly like you said. I am missing the wire clip /connector that extends from the balck wires that would fit aroound a screw, but that should be easily repalced.

Nice blue spark........... onto the carb....

Thanks (again!!!)
