Hello all,

I just purchased a John Deere Trailfire 440 and I hope to get it going before winter. The guy I purchased it from said the only problem with it was the recoil spring, which was too loose (the handle broke and he trouble with the cord, etc).

Anyway, this forum looks pretty informative so I hope you guys can help. This is my first snowmobile since I moved to Michigan from New Mexico.. so I've some learning to do.

Hi ya usually with the recoil the recoil plate for rope and dogs is worn out in spots and the outer plate has chunks missing from it you can buy a dog spring and plate kit which works most of the time the recoil spring itself doesnt usually break.

Welcome Aboard Pete, there are alot of guys on here with alot of Deere knowledge and are very helpful, so i'm sure you will find the information you are looking for, congrads on the purchase.
