1980 Liquifire Motor Problems

Post by guitardude081 »

It's 2 in the morning, and I finally got the motor in, all of the wires, lines, and other crap hooked up. My heads aren't torqued yet because I'm missing 2 thick washers (I like to lose stuff). When the spark plugs are in, it takes a lot to get it to pull over. When the plugs are out, it takes nothing to get it to pull. Could this be because the pistons, cylinders, and case are brand new? I used plenty of lube, so it's not binding, it's a smooth but hard pull. My second question is about timing. I decided to go with JD heads vs. Invader because of the pitting in the Invader heads. The line on the stator lines up with the ridge on the crankcase with the big notch in it, right? My last question is to where I can get the thick washers for the head bolts. Right now my heads are hand tight until I get these parts. Hopefully I can have 'er running by the time we ride to International falls in 2 weeks. It'll be one straight shot, and a great way to break it in.

I figured it out, I used too much assembly lube, and not enough protein shakes.
