RIDE WITH THE CHAMPS, Feb. 9, 2008
Greetings from the world center of snowmobiling, St. Germain, WI (and the home state of Horicon !)
With the change of day and date for the 2008 RIDE WITH THE CHAMPS to Saturday, Feb 9, 2008, it is not too early to think about room reservations in this great trail riding mecca. A lot of the Deere guys want to come back so do not delay..............it will be a ball again this year. Our vitage rider group gets larger every year..............and what a blast it is.
The event is headquartered at the beautiful log Whitetail Inn here in St. Germain this year. That is just down the road from the HOF. Check out our web site for details. Snowmobile Hall of Fame and go to the RIDE page for details and schedule.
The vintage rider group will again go to Minocqua for a shorter ride while the hot-dogs go to the Michigan UP and ride a whole lot longer and faster ! It is Cruserfest that weekend in Minocqua so there will be special things to do there all day including vintage displays and even vintage races on the lake.........we are still working out details with their snowmobile club that host this annual event.
Come join us for another great event. The induction ceremonies will again be super...............one of this years inductees is our departed friend C J Ramstad and we are planning to have s special grand opening of our new museum expansion.
Get those good 'ol Deers ready for another great vintage ride in the Northwoods.

Loren....count me in, I have some original team sleds that have not been seen before to show at the hall and plan on bringing them up! I am planning on riding the UP this year, pass the word to the Hayes bros., Bob, and Mike Trapp to sharpen their carbides! I am going to try and talk Bob Enns, Tom Otte, Willie Ansuew and others to join as well as Gerald Karpick and Guy Usseldinger. Would be great to have the Deere faithfull from the site come again, my prediction is good snow and lower gas prices preceding the election! Best Jon

Hi Loren and Jon,
I would love to make another trip to northern Wi from NY to have another chance of actually riding with the champs and legends.
Two small problems: WSPA Eastern Nationals is that weekend. I have dilusions of racing Pro-Vet with the big dogs. And my trail sled is either a 99 or 02 440 Fan Cooled Cat Sno Pro. 55 and 66 hp respectively. Dispite tall tracks and awsome Fox shocks, they are done at 75 mph!
Some of us Deere guys were talking about getting together for another vintage ride this winter. I was thinking of suggesting the HOF RWC again.
Guys, what do you all think about this years RWC? Go fast with Jon, ride vintage Deere's or stay home?
Jon: I do like your idea though!

I vote for a week long event in Standard. We'll all plan on staying at Pauls, but we should try to limit the event to a few hundred people. This will eliminte any lodging expenses and food expenses. I'll also request that Paul have plenty of gasoline on hand, so these costs will be nill. So no excuses guys and feel free to invite your freinds. I'm going to post fliers at the neighborhood bars and nightclubs in Standard ahead of time to make sure we have plenty of locals to spice things up. We're also going to give away Paul's X8 hood as a door prize along with alot of misc. home furnishings.
Anyway that was Paul's and my idea, but we also decided that we'd consider maybe taking your thoughts into a small consideration, possibly. But we have to think about it. And it depends on what kind of mood Paul is in.

I think another trip to St Germain would be the way to go. The 2007 event was impressive, just think what it would be like with snow!
What do you say Rich....should we meet again in Brevort, MI and race across the U.P. to Wisconsin in Feb 2008?

There are pros and cons to going to the HOF ride, or doing something somewhere else.
If you go to the HOF ride, pretty much all you have to do is show up. All the details are pretty much taken care of. You pay your money up front, get 3 meals, and support the HOF.
It's just a one day deal. Some who come from some distance might want to come early, or stay around after. Last year we arrived the afternoon before, and earlier would have been great!
I'm not expressing a personal prefference for locations. It does occur to me however, that if Jon convinces a number of JD Celebrities to attend the HOF Ride, a number of the JDSleds group may want to participate. I suspect if we tried to have 2 events, it would force the long distance guys to chose one or the other, and perhaps even the closer guys as well.
At the HOF last year, riding seemed to be a low priority for many. If there had been snow, there would have been many options. There isn't a trail from St Germain to Minoquca, there are several. You do not have to ride at ETD speeds, in fact I wouldn't because my aging body won't take it. But with vintage sleds you don't have to ride at warp speed to have fun.
I think we should be open to all ideas right now. At the moment, the HOF Ride is the only thing that is going to happen for sure.

Could do a afternoon Horicon factory tour and a cook/out after" bring your own grillables" as a Horicon reunion and proceed up to the HOF the next AM......the real plus at the HOF is the new building and display, many new sleds on display "Boss Cat from Warnings ect." the history, and with snow there is no better place to ride in the lower 48. Many great people will attend to honor CJ's induction, and assume that will include his friends, industry notables, racers, and alot of history. I still predict lower gas prices prior to the election and snow!

That does sound like a great idea Jon ..... Lots of guys have been nudging me about a ride on the Horicon marsh and a tour of the Factory. This may be doable ........ give it some more thought guys. I was talking to a few guys about a fund raiser for the hall of fame as well. Maybe a small auction of parts or something? I would donate a couple of flaps and some ski insulator if they are done ????????????
