Cleaning plastic gas tanks

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck cleaning the outsides of the cream colored plastic gas tanks. I have the 6 1/2 gallon plastic front mount tank that is very grungy and stained looking. Is there a plastic polish or some other means of cleaning these so they look new again?

I wiped mine down with a rag soaked in gas. The gas helped get all the grease off, then I wiped it down with some alchohol that I was using to prep for painting the engine compartment. The tank is clean, but still is yellowish looking, but I dont think any cleaners will get rid of the age.

T-roy, try this. If you have a Walmart handy ( or AutoZone) go to the automotive department and ask for "Yellow B-Gone". Sometimes it comes in spray and sometimes it has to be hand rubbed. Don

Hello

I found a gentle trick to clean fragile plastic parts.
Mix a solution of liquid car wash soap and tri sodium phosphate powder (TSP) in water.
TSP is a common cleaner available at your local hardware store.
Leave the parts immersed in the solution for several days, then scrub with a nylon finger brush.
A good rinse with cold water removes the residue.
Be patient, it will take a while to release the stubborn stains. Agitate the parts to move the solution around.
I used this method to clean a badly stained oil tank on my Liquifire Project.

I have used Don's option of Yellow B Gone for a convertable top rear window and it works as well too.
