2008 JDSleds Ride / Ride with the Champs
We've been talking about this since last spring. It is time to get serious about this!
The SHOF " Ride with the Champs" is Saturday, Feb. 9 In St. Germain, WI.
We are thinking about getting together the day before, for a ride on the Horicon Marsh, and perhaps a "Horicon Homecoming" photo op at the Horicon Works where our sleds were built.
Nothing is written in stone at this point. The point man on this, "Horicon" Joe Wanie, prefers to stay flexible on this, so we can adapt to whatever weather we draw.
Here is an idea of what is being proposed:
1. Get into town the afternoon of 02/07/08 and meet up at a local establishment for beers, burgers and a good BS session. If conditions are good, a little "tuning and testing" might be in order as well.
2. All of us out of town guys could stay the night in Horicon ( think party ).
Joe Wanie is hosting a little get together at his home on Thusday evening.
All JD enthusiasts are invited. Last I knew, Joe has beer on tap!
3. Meet and unload the sleds on Friday morning 02/08/08. Then make some laps around the marsh on the sleds, take pictures with the Deere plant in the back ground, and have a good time enjoying our machines!!
4. Around noon we could load up the sleds and have a group lunch in Horicon.
5. Hit the road for St Germain around 1:30pm to go to the HOF ride on 02/09/08.
SHOF Site / Registration
Here is a link to the activities at Minoqua on Sat.
Cruiserfest
Joe has a couple of ideas for a base to ride out of. Here is one: Rock River Tap
If we have good ice, we can ride the river right up into the marsh.
Joe has a back up facility in mind as well.
Here is a list of motels in the area: Area Motels
If conditions are not good in Horicon, and conditions in St. Germain are good, we could exercise our option to head north early, and get some extra riding in up there. Part of the reason this is being planned for the marsh, is that good snow is not required as long as we have good ice.
Keep watching this page, as I will be adding more info as it becomes available.
It would be helpfull if we had some idea of the interest and participation expected. I am putting up a sign up page as well. Please post your intentions there, and comments and questions on this page.

Bob, Cameron, and I would be happy to come early and participate. We would need some info on rooms, etc. We may be one sled short however as Cyclone #2 isn't done and I haven't found Cyclone #3 yet. Our registrations have been sent to HOF for Saturday's ride. Don

A mapquest search indicates more motel choices in Beaver Dam than Horicon.
When Wanie gets tired of hunting deer, ( the 4 legged kind ) we'll get the lowdown on the motel situation.
Don, you have no problems! Your buddy Campbell ( where it appears your Cyclone is sitting ) has been buying another sled most every week this summer.
Surely he can set you up with a ride, and if he gives you any crap, just ask him if his wife knows how many sleds he actually has?

To those planning to come to the Hall of Fame events, please make room reservation early as it is a busy time here and is one of our big winter weekends.
Our site LINKS PAGE has several resorts and motels listed (big HOF supporters)and the Chamber site has many listed with info and numbers. The Whitetail Inn where the breakfast and induction banquet are is a restaurant only....no lodging. We have lots of great motels and resorts close by.
With the Cruiserfest event also going on in Minocqua area that weekend too, things will be fun. Remember the vintage rider group will head there to join in their fun on the lake and they have the treat of going to Bosacki's Boathouse for lunch while the faster and longer rider groups will most likely head north and some will even ride to the UP of Mich.
Hope you all enjoy Horicon and St. Germain ! ! Loren

My brother was in Minocqua over the weekend, and reported the trails were in decent condition, with more snow falling!

Hey guys, I think I will also be at Joe's for the "HORICON" ride. I am not sure about the HOF. I got approval from the "BOSS" on the ride but unsure about HOF. Just only so much one can do in one winter. Waconia next weekend. North Shore of MN ride coming up and I just got home tonight from a 2-day 300 mile plus ride in Price and Ashland counties. I know I was less than 60 miles from Eagle River and the trails were great. The groomers were out last night and groomed 4" of fresh powder. Believe me, it would have been a sweet ride on our John Deere leafers today. I guess that is if we could have kept our hands warm. I actually had to stop and warm up my fingers once today and that was with good gloves and windshield. By the way, my hand and thumb warmers were on high and working good. Hope to see you all soon. You might as well come along Duane! I know you want to, and Paul is leaving the Cougar at home.

If you guys change your plans and head toward St. Germain for a ride Friday we are gonna have a vintage ride Friday the 8th. We will probably ride out of lake Minocqua and head somewhere?? Saturday we will be in the ride with the champs. As far as conditions go its great right now. Looks to be a short warm up early next week and then back into the freezer and some good snow so conditions should be good. I live north of Minocqua so if you guys need info or trail reports feel free to email. Snopro79@aol.com

It's time to load the sleds!
The 340S and the X8 are going, always can find more to mess with, but the deadline is here. Ready or not, load them up.
Spent all afternoon plowing snow, we got dumped on today, 8 - 10 inches with wind. Ran the two sleds on the hard pack road tonight, my ears are still ringing.
The 340s runs right up to 70 mph and is still pulling.
