1981 440 fuel problems
I just recently bought a 440, with fuel problems, pulled the carb off and cleaned, installed new fuel pump. still had no fuel, pulled air box off and put hand over carb and have very little suction (not enough to pull fuel through), kinda new at this, anyone have any suggestions where to go from there.

make sure hoses are tight and try making gas get to the pump by gravity and if its new then it should be fine after that
Many new and used parts available, I ship anywhere. Thanks everyone.

I guess we need more info, like are you getting a good flow of gas from the tank to the fuel pump?? What is the engine compression?? Have you installed new fuel lines including the one in the tank & the fuel pump impulse line?? Etc.

I have new hoses from the tank to the fuel pump, and off the fuel pump to the carb. Not sure what the compression is. With the air box off i use a mirror and when pulling it over i am not seeing fuel go into the carb, when u pull it over doesnt it work like a vaccuum and suck fuel to the carb? if so, i belive i dont have enough vaccuum to pull the fuel through.

Need to know more about the motor itself...Could have crankcase seal out,,Broken skirt on pistons,,Pistons in backwards,All these will contribute to no vacum...
Good Luck..Frankie

If there is no fuel in the system (carbs) sometimes it is hard to get them started. What I have done is got the air compressor and a rag out. Using the air compressor to blow air into the tank and using the rag to seal around the air nozzle.
This forces the fuel into the carbs and gets the system primed. It should help it start. If it doesnt there may be some other issues with the fuel pump/fuel delivery system.

Can you see fuel moving from the pump to the carbs? Is the impulse line new also? if not it could be collapsed, pinched off, or not hooked up to the right fitting on the pump????
If everything is new as far a hoses go & hooked up correctly, then ck the carb to see if there is fuel in the float bowl. if not ck the needle to make sure it's not stuck in the seat, or that the floats are adjusted properly.

If the engine pulls over hard, it most likely has enough compression to run.
You say you can't see fuel being pulled in, I wouldn't expect you to.
These are small displacement motors, and if you are opening the throttle to look in while pulling it over, it won't pull anything.
Mikunis start with the enrichener on, and the throttle ( slide ) must be closed!
As asked before; are you seeing fuel flowing through the lines into the carb?
Open the slide, shoot a little premix into the carb, close the slide, and start it.

get gas to flow to the carb that should do it with the pump not the carb, you can even take that hose off pull it over untill gas runs out then hook it back up and try to run it
