I just picked up this motor and I'm wondering if anyone out there can tell me what it is. All I know for sure is that it's a CCW. The sticker near the starter is missing.

It doesn't look Deere - incorrect shroud. Hard to tell in the picture but it looks like the fan assy. is completely different too. Could be from a Raider, or maybe Skiroule. Can't tell CC size or version from the outside.

Thanks. I had assumed it was from a JD but I guess I was mistaken.

I had a couple people on another forum assure me it was a 340 or 440 BSE too from an old Moto-ski. I'm surprised it would have a CCW starter on it.

I just came across this. http://www.geocities.com/motoskihistory/BSE.html Seems that BSE and CCW were made by the same company. That could explain why the CCW recoil works on the BSE.

Definately a BSE. I have one identical to it sitting in my shed. I think the only manufacturer that ever used BSE engines was Moto Ski.

Whetever it is I finally got it started today and it sounds pretty good. Hopefully I'll get it ready to drive tomorrow.

sorry, bvolks......I didn't notice your question until today. Better late than never, I guess. I actually had two of them at that time.....a good running 340 which I have since sold. And a 440 that I still have, but it seems weak on compression on one side. Didn't give it a proper test....just pulled the rope with my finger in the plug hole and it didn't seem to have much.
