all kawi oil inj pumps identical?
Oil inj pumps on the kawi motors rarely go bad right? Are all of them the same? Intruder, Liquifire, Sportfire, etc??

all kawi oil inj pumps identical?
I have major oil consumption on my 80 Liquifire. Definitely has the older pump as it is under serial # 150,000.
Checked the parts manual that covers up to 84, and there is only one pump # for all 80-84 liquifres. Was that 'field change' you spoke of, only a trailfire modification?
My sled runs way too much oil through it, and only gets 8-9 mpg. I know because I put 300+ miles on a 3 day trail ride and used twice as much gas and oil as eeryone else, and everyone was riding vintage!! I need to adjust both of those items if possible, as it gets to be a pain carrying a gallon of oil per day and extra 6+ gallons on fuel!
1 - Are oil pumps rebuildable? I know you adjust them to match throttle opening.
2 - Where does the oil pump feed the crank bearings? I only see 2 oil lines, one to each intake?
3 - Anyone have the carb specs for the 83-84 liq's. Supposedly those specs give me better fuel mpg?
Thanks.
(i have new oil pumps for both my Kawi Intruder (F/C), and Invader (liquid), either of those will NOT work???)

Ok,
1 - Great info. I definitely need to go through this system again. I am bone stock on everything. Stock carbs, stock gearing. I made a note of all of it last year. I checked my Deere CD manuals for 80-84 Liquifire, and did not notice any differences in carb adjustments for the 82-84's. I saw the change in specs for altitude and temp compensation...but that was it. Am I missing something?
2 - Also, I must not have been paying attention...but after looking at it again, I must not have replaced the check valve for the oil line that feeds the bearing...only did the 2 for the intakes!!
3 - If I found a new oil inj pump with the silver lever, would that bolt on?? Seems like if everything else is up to spec, that is my only other option in reducing oil consumption.
4 - My stock gearing is 21/ 35 66 pitch @ 1.59 / 1. Seems like that is the second lowest ratio that Deere had to give highest top end. (lowest is 1.56/ 1 with 25, 39 gears and 70 pitch chain). Since most sledders RARELY are operating at sustained WOT of 80 mph+ for long periods of time...maybe would be a good idea to drop down into the high altitude gearing (which in reality, most trail riding is in the 60 mph and under range).
So to make a gearing change, I need both new gears and new chain?
Where do I find the gears and correct chain?
5 - After looking at the jetting recommendations for 4000-8000 ft, it seems that if I ran these specs I would see a bit of mpg improvement, as higher alt specs tend to drop down in size on all jet sizes, which would reduce fuel consumption?
5a - would I have any engine problems if running high alt specs even though I am NOT really at high altitude?? Seems like I would be experiencing a lean condition, if dropping down jet sizes, while running at low altitude??
Long post...I know, thanks for the help.
