Couple of questions.
I have a 76 340 cyclone with a 94c comet duster clutch. I do not like the way it shifts. The engine runs too fast (around 7000-7500). I think the duster clutch is not set up right. I believe a comet 102c is the org. My questions is, would a clutch off a 74 JDX4 (Comet 101c I believe) work? I just want to make sure.
Next I have a 76 440 LF. It does not want to idle at all. I can play with the throttle to keep it running. Before it dies it runs around 1500 RPM for a few seconds. It is a pooch in the low end but goes good above 4500 rpm. I have new plugs in it (Ngk BR9es) and I cleaned the carbs and they are spotless. I cked the pilot jets to make sure they were not plugged but to no avail. The air screws are 1 1/2 turns out chokes are set right at 1/16" slack. Would an air leak or bad reed valve cause this? I noticed a little spit back in the carbs. I didn't think reed valve engines did this. Any ideas appreciated. I just got this last week so I don't know much history on it and I do have a service manual for it.

Couple of questions
Justin,
The duster clutch is not original. It should be a 102C, but the 101 could work with the proper weights and primary spring.
The liquifire problem sounds like the tiny air jet is clogged.(located in the lower portion of the air horn. The reed valve engines have a slight carb spit-back, this is normal.

Couple of questions
Well the LF is running great, cleaned the carbs again and cked the air jets didn't really see clogging but it did help. adj the idle up some and it runs better.
The 76 340 Cyclone works much better with the JDX4 clutch (comet 100C) The weights in it are "F" Weights with a white spring just what it calls for a JDX4. Now what does a 340 cyclone require? The cross reference chart in FAQ does not list a cyclone 340. Next is the belt, I put a 76 440 LF belt in the cyclone and it ended up being too tight. I thought the belts were the same. Does any one have the P/N for the LF and/or Cyclone belt?
Thanks in advance

Couple of questions
JDXspec,
I am running a Dayco Max 1080 on both my 76 cyclone and 76 liquifire. The belt fits fine and I have set up the alignment/distance with the JD tool . The 340 cyclone clutching uses a silver spring and HE-1 weight arms.

Couple of questions
OK I finally got take the LF on a decent run today and am wondering what the temp should run at. The service manual says its controlled at 144 but it was getting up about 195. It was about 26 degrees out today and the snow is hard and has some ice on top of it. I'm thinking there wasn't enough loose snow to cool properly? Has anyone ever ran into this? When I stop steam comes out from under the seat so it is getting coolant through the coolers. Other than that it has run great.
