Have clutch side crank seal leaking. Not a big job. Just pull off end seal cap put in new seal and away I go. Wrong. Cannot get the ring gear hub off. Anyone had one on real tight?

Been there... done that...
I had the devil of a time getting mine off not once but twice .. The first time and then the second time when I pressed it in backwards.. broke a puller or two in the process.
Start by removing the gear from the collar. Mine was a two piece unit.
Get a good gear puller and attach using the tapped holes on the collar. (not the cap screw holes) Make sure the bolts your gear puller is using are grade 5 or better.
Stuff some fiberglass insulation behind the collar to protect the old seal and casing from the heat.. (This was a great suggestion from Brian400 when I did mine..)
Put as much preasure on the puller was you dare then stop.
Put a wet rage on the crank to keep the temperature down then use a MPS torch or better and heat the collar up. If you have enough preasure on the puller you should hear a few pops as the coller expands and begins to slide off the crank.
Just as a note to place the collar back on just heat it up and slide onto the crank as you should not need to press it back on.. Once you get it placed just right cool it off with a wet rag right away to avoid heat transfer to the crank and seal.
Good luck..

Exactly what I just finished doing. Except there is no way I am putting it back on. Thanks for the reply anyway.
