Hi! I am the proud ownner of three Spits, all in good condition, working to get them
ready for the season. Have not been able to find any gaskets/ seals for the Mikuni
AM54886 carbs. Anyone know? Also any advice on track replacement would be
great. The 80 has had a conversion to a Yamaha track, but both 79's will need to be
replaced. Any info guys? Thanks. Jingles.

Hey Jingles,
I may be able to help you. I have a green (78) spit and a black (1980) Spit. I am in the processof putting the kohler engine (formt he 78) into the black Spit.
So... I know now have a 340 Kaw engine (complete) and a few misc parts form the 78. The Kawi will need def new rings and the cylinders honed, but otherwise it sparks (when it was in one piece!) Planning on listing various parts on ebay soon (but feel free to contact me before hand).
As to track, I almost have the drive shaft off of the 78 and want to assees both track more completely. Neither is in terrible shape (used obviously). So... Like I said, feel free to contact me in acouple weeks (2-3) if you don't get any other replies on the track, and for Kawi parts, just send me an email.
Dan

Hey Guys,
Several Deere tracks fit the Spitfire. A track from a 82-84 Snow or Sprintfire fits, as does one from a 79-80 Trailfire or a 1980 Sportfire. The original 81 Sport and 81-84 Trailfires are about 1/2" wider with a different p/n, and DO NOT fit the direct drive chassis (Spit, Sprints and Snowfires).
I would like to hear how you got a Yamaha track to fit. I wasn't aware of any 2" pitch Yamaha tracks, only the Polaris Cutlass track. But, the Polaris track is longer, has different center distances, and is a frigging pain to use on a Deere.
Good luck with your sleds,

Hey Joe if I rememer I will get you a pic of the driveshaft that cam out of my sportfire that had a yamaha track in it. The whole hex portion of the shaft was machined/ground down to fit yamaha or the right pitch drive sprockets on it. The only part not cut down was of course where it went into the case. But here are a few pics of the sled with this yamaha setup in it note how well it fit HAHA. The sled did nothing but wheelie off idle. Now before anybody says anything I DID NOT do this bought it this way and got the right stuff back in it. We did run the sled this way though Id bet we put 50 miles of beating on it before the track snapped. Hope somebody gets a laugh out of this or can tell me WHY.

Hey Dan. Will reply later with spesifics regarding Yamaha track conversion. I beliieve
I have part numbers and instructions. Would be intereste3d in a glove box lid for a
Spitfire. Also interested if any one can explain why in the Clymer manual I bought,
the belt # for a 79 and 80 Spit are the same, but the shaft center specs are different.
Would sure love to find new original Spit tracks. Thanks everyone for the replies.
Ron.

jingles,
my brother in law owns a 78 340 Kohler spitfire. We got rid of the older butterfly Mikuni carb and replaced it with a new VM 34 slide Mikuni. Much better carb. I would recommend the newer carb rather than trying to clean and rehab the old carb. I don't believe you'll find any parts for the older butterfly mikunis
