What is the correct drive belt for a 1980 sportfire? Dennis Kirk said the Dayco Max1080, MFG Supply said the HP3012 replaces the OEM Max 1078.
 Thank you...

Max 1078 should be the right one but both should work (MAX 1078 is 46-5/8 X 1-1/4 the MAX 1080 is 46-3/16 X 1-1/4 thats only 7/16" shorter.) it might be a little tight but it'll stretch or wear soon enough

Thanks Ken, That is the one I have on the sled now (Max1078), but my neighbor who is into old snowmobiles said it looks was too big? He put a new Max1078 we had as a spare, and it went right over both the first and secondary clutch without backing off the secondary clutch. Is that normal?
Thanks, Timothy

Am I understanding you when you are saying you don't have to open the driven clutch to remove the belt? Is it just sitting on the top loose? It should be in the clutch itself, not loose on the top.

Hello Bob, You are correct. You don't have to open the drive clutch to remove the drive belt. It is a little tight, but you can pull it off.
