I'm just finishing up a refurb on my Dad's one owner 1973 JDX4 (1274 miles) with the Kohler 295 engine in it. It's been a long road, but I finally ran it out of a portable gas can the other night.
The sticker on the tank says mix 50:1 with John Deere oil and 20:1 with all other oils.
<small>What premix ratio should I use?</small>
I have put a new clutch in her, new condensers, cleaned the points (the new points I bought didn't fit), set the points and timing, new plugs and Kreemed the tank. The only thing I have left to do is put the gears and drive chain back on (the original drive gear was stripped because I was an idiot 20 years ago when I broke the sled in the first place).

Most all the brand name 2-stroke snowmobile oils of today say 50-1. Use a good brand name oil SNOWMOBILE oil not chain saw oil or a cheap brand.

I've got a 73 X4 with 2800 miles on it that I bought new and all I've ever used is 50:1 mix. Just use a GOOD oil and in my opinion NOT Penzoil. Seems that when I pulled the heads on the X4 and also a outboard that I had it had Major carbon problems when I used Penzoil. My 2 cents. Mailman

Thanks, guys. 50:1 it is then. I poured it into the freshly Kreemed tank last night! Now I just have to get the chain tensioners installed and adjust the track and

i seen you said you got a new drive gear for your JDX4 ive been looking every where for a lower drive gear for my JDX4 could you tell me where you can get them thanks jeff
