Reproduction Dator-Lite Hoods

Post by JoeRainville »

Hi Guys,

The first of the reproduction Dator-Lite hoods are ready for spring delivery. The mold was taken of an orginal NOS Dator lite hood that was luckily unharmed from the process.

These hoods do not include hinges or any hardware, glass only.

Asking $300.00 each.

So far I the following people have raised their hands for them:

JRC: 2
Chuck Moser: 2
Jesse: 2

I am planning the first run to be about 10 to 12 hoods, so please let me know if anyone else is interested so I get enough made.

340/s glass hoods and pans are also available!

Thanks,
-Rainville

Hi Troy,

The 340/s Hoods should be $300, while pans are $200. The pan was made from an NOS glass pan and would use the original narrow bumper.

Thanks,
-Joe

PS: Repop glass pans for the 76-78 LF, Cyclone and Dators are also available, but are the 76-77 style and would have to be bonded or rivited on.

Joe , what do you mean by bonded or riveted on for the 76-77 pans. Also are the pans the 76 style or the 77/78 style. Do you believe these pans would be able to take the tension from the hood being opened? Duane

Hi Guys,

Guess I'm showing I'm a newbie but I have to ask a couple questions. I'm accumulating NOS parts for a dator restoration I'm hoping to do soon.

Do these dator lite hoods look the same as the regular ones and they worth buying? If so can someone post a pic for us? Guess I MAY need more decals!

Also, what do people think of the fiberglass repop pans? Are they just for show sleds or can they actually be used on an everyday driver? I'm just worried they would be to fragile to take any sort of regular use.

Perhaps someone can fill me in on the details when they have a minute.

Thanks!
Craig

Don,

I have to check, but I thought the 340/s hoods are the later style with openings on both sides. But, I have to check.

Duane,

Since the original pans are spot welded on aluminum ones, the replacement glass pans would need to be attached to the aluminum chassis by either bonding or riviting them on. I think they are the 76 style since they were done with Dators in mind.

Craig,

I do not have any pic's as my builder doesn't use computers. Maybe I can get them to send me one snail mail. The Dator lite hoods look just like a regular heavy dator hood, but instead of being a cut hood with the scoup bonded on, they are one piece, and much thinner and lighter. The mold was made from an NOS factory Deere Dator lite hood, and will look original.

Later Liquidator,
-Rainville

On the vent holes for the 340/s hoods. They are cut in on both sides like the newer versions. Very nice hoods and i believe you could wheel and deal with Lee Fredrickson for the sum of 250.00 per hood. Would need to check on the pans.

The Liquifire fiberglass pans are the 76 version. Should be able to handle the stress of the hoods as the hoods are resting on the bumper that is held on by brackets and not being supported by the pan at all . Hit a rock and the pan will crack but if you hit a rock an aluminum pan will dent or rip. Kinda evens out i guess.

With the Dator hoods i still have a couple sets of decals left. When these are gone there gone for good. As i dont have any plans on making any more up. $210 shipped.

Joe : Being a fibregalss repop. What will the final exterior finish beon these hoods ?

Will they need to be block and primed a few times to straighten them up or a basic scuff and paiint product ?

Also the interiror hood finish will it look like an original lite hood ?
Rough ? Smooth ?

Thanx Dave

Shannon,

Got you down for one, thanks for the order.

All the glass I mentioned is coming from Lee Fredrickson. I paid him to make me a mold for the Dator-hoods so I own the product. Lee already makes the 340/s hoods and pans, so I offered to help move a few since some of the NY guys need them. However, I am not getting a price brake on the 340/s glass below $250.00 per hood. I am offering to deliver them for $300 so I am only adding shipping.

All the glass comes gel coated as is as nice as the NOS parts that were used to make the repop's. The inside of the hoods will look close to the orginal, a bit rough as they originally came out of a one sided mold. Lee always states that these parts may need final trimming and prep work before painting.

Thanks everyone who has already ordered, I am up to 10 Dators hoods and counting.

Joe,

I would like to get one of those hoods. I'll give you my email so you can send me you address. I live about 10 miles from Chuck (I500), so maybe that would help on shipping.

Thanks-Craig

When you say the Liquidator hoods are gel-coated, do you mean that the hood is already green and black? Or is it already green and I will have to add the black?
