JDX-6 Mikuni Question

Post by colt250ss »

Ok guys, I have some carb issues on the 74' JDX-6. I had the whole river to myself this weekend and the sled fell flat on it's face after about 5 grand. The BENDIX carb is a total piece. I would like to put a Mik on the sled. I have an adapter for a 32mm. Does anyone have a carb for relatively cheap. I am also wondering what jets need to be put in it. I would like to get this sorted out before the end of the season. Thanks, Forrest.

Forrest

Switching to the Mikuni involves more than just a carb.

The Bendix is pretty simple. Is it clean, and do you have fuel to it?

Fuel tank clean, pick-up clean, good fuel pump.

I'd switch to a Walbro if I had to, but only if I had to.

Don't listen to Paul ( I can hear it coming )

I need to go into the business of making adapter plates if that is what would be needed to convert from a Walbro to a Mikuni. I wont say anything else Brian..

I know that I need a throttle cable and a choke cable/hand choke assembly. I already have a Mik fuel pump and my adapter boot thinger-ma-bob.

:D If someone has Bendix parts that would be cool as well. I have a Walbro but I was taking it apart to clean it and an unknown spring went on a permanent vacation somewhere in the shop. Thanks again for the help, Forrest.

Forrest,

I have a plastic gas tank out of a 75 X8, the fuel door doesn't quite close, but with a dremel and a little altering of the fuel door and you will have a problem free plastic tank. I also have carb specs to mount up a 34 mm Mikuni, actually, this is one of the alterations I would like to try, and this would be a good reason to try it. Have you had the engine off of the chassis, to do a rebuild?

There is a Bendix carb on ebay right now. search- deere carb

The trio of tiny Walbro springs can be purchased from Central Snowmobile for like a buck a piece.

I know the guys put a Mikuni on the Ski Whiz, but a transplant can make as many problems as it solves.

What is wrong with the Bendix?

JDX-6 Mikuni Question

Post by colt250ss »

The Bendix has some major issues (hole in float) and I have been wanting ti try a Mik conversion for a while now. I am doing a rebuild in a few weeks as I have most of the parts that I need. Ken, could you possibly post the specs for the 34mm. It is easy enough to get a boot. Thanks, Forrest.

I rebuilt the Walbro on my X6 with a complete kit from Central, that has all new springs, gaskets, and even the spoon looking leafspring. If I'm not mistaken I think the bore on the factory Walbro is bigger then the bendix, which is proably choking off the intake a little. I'd like to try the Mikuni conversion too,but this is the first year that I got my X6 out since 1995,so I'm just happy it is going. I did a radar run with mine about a month ago on a mix of snow and ice,and in 500 ft. I was hitting 62 mph, and the skis didn't touch the ground to much in that time down the track,so don't totally bash the Walbro, once they are rebuilt and cleaned up they aren't all that bad.

Forrest,

Since Joe Rainville and I bothe live vear you, Avon and Henrietta, we could probably get together sometime and help you. As for the specs, if you need them right away, I would have to mail them to you instead of posting them, it is just a hassle to retrieve the Deere numbers, cross reference them to Mikuni numbers and then post them.
