Paul just said "I'm outta here" or something like that and left - it was clear that he wasn't happy, but he didn't make a big fuss. No big deal.
An hour later or so, all their members had moved over to the new chat room at Cruelpaul's site.

Hey Doc,
Don't worry, we even let you post on here, and you like Polaris sleds, LOL!
Some, ok, most of us still haven't gotten over Polaris buying out the Deere sled line up in Feb of 84. Maybe we will get over it in another 24 years...
Also, I am picking up Forest's Massey in a few weeks. Pooch got hold of me already, so we should be all set. I would like to commend you for winning the auction for it, and then donating the sled to Forest. I will personally deliver it to his door when I return.

It still rubs me the wrong way. Personally, I prefer not to even see the P-word here!

Just take it all in stride, no need to get worked up over the little things.

Joe and All I can certainly understand. Ski-Doo was ready to buy Polaris in the early 80's. Very scary time for Polaris. The town people bought out Polaris from Textron and said no way. I would not sit well with a Polaris looking like a SKi-Doo any more than you may with a John Deere looking like a Polaris. Just aint right. So all in all it may have been a good thing. Wish John Deere could have held it together for a while longer they had some very innovative ideas. Some, ok, most of us still haven't gotten over Polaris buying out the Deere sled line up in Feb of 84. Hey Doc,
Really, it wasn't Polaris' fault Deere was shopping the sled division. It was Deere that decided to get out of the market, just as it began to re-expand from 85,000 units in 83 up to 250,000 units in the mid 90's. Kind of like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
There were several times Deere almost purchased Cat lock, stock and barrel. Polaris almost purchased Cat in 82, but did finally end up with Deere in 84. Didn't know about Ski-Doo going after Polaris though. Cat did purchase Scorp, who had already purchased Brute, who was started by former Polaris engineers.
Kawi sold motors to Cat, then bought Sno*Jet and and sold motors to Deere, then quit in 82. Cat built the Fury for Suzuki in 75 and changed to their motors in 76. Cat dies in 81, but came back in 84.
The point I guess I am trying to make here is that the sled business was a tough game to be in during the late 70's to early 80's. 70 odd brands down to 4. I really don't resent Polaris too badly, and I do own a Polaris Sport 400L quad.
One good thing they did was sign a 5 year contract to provide parts for Deere sleds. That is why there are still tons of NOS parts for Deere machines out there. And Doc, you are always welcome here...

There was a lot of weird things happening back in the 75-78 era.
The 77 Snojets had Kawasaki decals on the hood and Yamaha motors under them.
Scorpion was building Massey sleds in Crosby and Cat was building Kawasaki's in TRF.
Massey built the Brut in 76 and called it a Cyclone.
Which makes me wonder if Deere ever went after them for using the model name?
Actually what was happening was the companies were trying to stay afloat and keep the employees working. Cat had a very effecent and modern assembly line so the contracted to build other brands.
I think they even built some Rupps in TRF.
